Candy-free Easter Hunt a Huge Hit!

We had a hoppin’ good time at our 5th annual Easter Egg Hunt! Over 2,000 plastic eggs and toys for 150 kids, including a fun craft and the Easter bunny himself, brought joy and happiness on Saturday March 28th at Southwood Park in Murray. The event was sponsored in-part by Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) and provided a fun and safe food-free environment for kids with food allergies and their families.

On our Facebook page Kamaile Anne posted, “Thanks for putting on the food free Easter egg hunt. My son said it was the best egg hunt ever :)” and Shauntel Acuna said, “Thank you so much for doing the food free Easter egg hunt! We had so much fun this is going to be a new family tradition!” Michelle Fogg said in her post, “We had a great morning at the 5th annual ‪#‎UFAN‬ Easter Egg Hunt! Love that my children could enjoy in a safe community event. Huge thanks to all the volunteers for making it a big success this year!”

We hope you enjoy some of the event photos below and give a big thanks to Lou Ann Donahue for volunteering her talents! Photo credit Lulabelle Photography & Design http://lmgdonahue.wix.com/lbphotoanddesign (unless otherwise noted).

Utah 4th State to Expand Epinephrine Auto-Injector Use to Entities

SB147 Epinephrine Auto-Injector Use Expansion passes both legislative bodies today and is on it’s way to Governor Herbert!

Utah is the fourth state to expand epinephrine auto-injector access to entities such as recreation camps; an education facility, school, or university; a day care facility; youth sports leagues; amusement parks; food establishments; places of employment; and recreation areas. We applaud Senator Dayton and Representative Arent for sponsoring the bill and hope you will join us in thanking them personally by sending an email or making a phone call! You can also thank your respective individual representatives for voting in favor of the bill (to find who they are click here).

The Utah Food Allergy Network formed a committee of community stakeholders and advocated for the passing of this legislation that amends the Emergency Injection For Anaphylactic Reaction Act in the Utah Health Code. The highlighted provisions of the bill:

  • defines terms;
  • permits certain qualified entities to obtain a prescription for a supply of epinephrine auto-injectors for use by a trained, qualified adult;
  • requires the qualified entity to store the supply of epinephrine auto-injectors in accordance with standards developed by the Department of Health;
  • expands liability protection with respect to an anaphylactic reaction to:

– a medical professional prescribing a supply of epinephrine auto-injectors;

– a person conducting training; and

– a qualified entity; and

  • provides administrative rulemaking authority to the Department of Health.

Bravo Utah for passing legislation that benefits those affected by anaphylaxis and for setting the example for other states to follow suit!
